“The Island I Would Like” Labs

Co-designing climate neutral futures with island communities

Drawing from the knowledge gathered through the Rooting Labs and previous project activities, the Island I Would Like Labs represent one of the key participatory moment in the CO2 PACMAN process. Here, communities and project partners work side by side to co-design future scenarios for climate neutrality, transforming evidence and ideas into practical pathways for action.

Objectives

• Co-design scenarios based on local data, perceptions, and spatial insights
• Promote dialogue between institutions, citizens, businesses, and youth
• Explore the impacts of different mitigation options
• Support climate neutral pathways shaped by local values and informed community decisions.

How it Works 

1. Preparing the Scenario Base
   The Labs build on validated inputs from the GHG Balance, Landscape Analysis, AskyourcitizenonCaN, Youth Think Tank, and Open Innovation activities.
2. Participatory Workshops
   Stakeholders work in mixed groups to discuss priorities, challenges, and possible actions for decarbonisation.
3. Scenario Exploration with the CO2 PACMAN Tool
   Participants test mitigation measures, combine actions, and compare alternative pathways using real island data.
4. Immersive Visualization through VR
   Virtual Reality allows users to experience renewable energy solutions within realistic island landscapes, improving understanding of spatial and visual impacts.
5. Co-creation of Shared Visions
   Ideas and insights are consolidated into scenario proposals that reflect both technical evidence and community perspectives.
